3 Hurt by Celebratory Gunfire After Nashville’s Let Freedom Sing Fest

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A celebratory tradition turned painful for three people in downtown Nashville after the Let Freedom Sing fireworks display. Police received reports of gunshot injuries in separate areas as the crowd, estimated at 365,000 people strong, began to disperse.

  • 60-year-old man: wounded in the foot.
  • 58-year-old woman: struck in the chest.
  • 26-year-old woman: hit on the bridge of her nose, suffering a swollen lip while boarding a ride-share.

Police have not determined the sources of the gunfire, and investigations continue into how and where the shots were fired.

The Metro Nashville Police Department warned that celebratory gunfire is inherently dangerous when projectiles fired into the air fall back into populated areas.

This incident highlights the unpredictable risks of firing guns skyward, often overlooked in festive settings. As cities around the world host large-scale events, experts urge revelers to find safer ways to celebrate without putting bystanders at risk.
