Drone Swarm Hits Kyiv: 23 Wounded, Trump to Speak with Zelenskyy

In a dramatic overnight assault, Ukraine's capital was battered by a massive drone and missile barrage. Authorities reported Russia unleashed 539 drones and 11 missiles, triggering air raid alerts that lasted more than eight hours.

At least 23 people were injured across Kyiv, with 14 admitted to hospitals after explosions set buildings ablaze and debris damaged a medical facility in the leafy Holosiivskyi district. Six of the city's ten districts—on both sides of the Dnipro River—experienced damage from falling drone parts and shrapnel.

State-owned rail operator Ukrzaliznytsia confirmed that railway infrastructure suffered damage, forcing passenger trains to be rerouted and causing delays in the network. Despite the scale of the attack, Ukraine's Air Force said it shot down 478 of the incoming threats, highlighting the resilience of the capital's defense systems.

The barrage is the latest in an intensifying campaign of air strikes on Kyiv, which has faced some of the conflict's deadliest assaults in recent weeks. Meanwhile, late Thursday shelling near the eastern city of Pokrovsk killed five people, underlining the conflict's human toll beyond the capital.

In a sign of mounting international engagement, Trump is set to speak with Zelenskyy, signaling ongoing diplomatic efforts amid rising tensions. As the world watches, Kyiv braces for what could be more waves of attacks in the days ahead.
