UN Envoy Fu Cong: ‘No More Deceptions’ in Israel-Iran Ceasefire

In a high-stakes appeal at the United Nations Security Council in New York, China's permanent representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, called on Wednesday for all parties to honor the recently reached ceasefire between Israel and Iran with 'no more deceptions this time.'

The truce took effect early Tuesday after both sides unleashed final salvos of missiles in the closing moments of a 12-day exchange of air strikes. Since then, no new air attacks have been reported and civilian restrictions have been lifted across affected areas.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres echoed the sentiment in a post on X, urging both Israel and Iran to fully respect the ceasefire. 'The fighting must stop. The people of the two countries have already suffered too much,' he wrote, adding that he hopes this pause will extend to other parts of the region.

Diplomacy experts warn that without transparent enforcement, the truce could quickly unravel. Building trust through clear rules and open channels will be crucial to prevent flare-ups and pave the way for longer-term stability.

For young global citizens and changemakers, this moment highlights the impact of coordinated international efforts and the importance of robust multilateral institutions. As the world watches, the success of this ceasefire could shape how digital-era diplomacy tackles complex conflicts and whether it can deliver tangible, lasting peace.
