Chinese envoy: US, Israel strikes in Iran breach UN Charter

In Geneva this Monday, China's envoy to the UN office delivered a stirring call to action. Speaking at a side event marking the 80th anniversary of the UN Charter during the 59th session of the UN Human Rights Council, Chen Xu condemned recent strikes by the United States and Israel in Iran as direct breaches of the Charter's principles.

He stressed that the UN Charter laid the groundwork for modern international order and warned that these military operations undermine both its purposes and the stability multilateralism is meant to protect. Chen also criticised Washington's policy of withdrawing from global groups and cutting funding, saying this approach deals a serious blow to collective cooperation.

Highlighting China's vision of 'true multilateralism,' he argued that dialogue and consultation should be the path to resolving differences. He described peace as a driver for development and a guardian of human rights, and he voiced support for ongoing UN reforms aimed at making the organisation more representative and effective.

In closing, Chen urged all nations to back the United Nations, work with China to safeguard world peace, promote shared development, and guarantee human rights for every community. He said unity and respect for shared principles are essential to securing our common future.
