Iran Says US Strike Only Damaged Fordow’s Above-Ground Facilities

On Sunday, Mohammad Manan Raisi, a member of the Iranian parliament representing Qom, clarified the impact of a recent US military strike on the Fordow nuclear facility. Contrary to President Trump’s assertion of serious underground damage, Raisi confirmed that only the above-ground sections of the site in Qom Province were harmed, and all affected structures can be restored.

Speaking to Tasnim News Agency, Raisi stressed that "all items that may pose a threat to nearby residents" had long been cleared from the facility, and there have been no reports of nuclear radiation. His remarks aim to ease regional security concerns after tensions spiked over potential disruptions to Iran’s nuclear program.

Raisi framed the US strike as direct US involvement in the broader conflict in the Middle East, signaling that Iran is now carefully weighing when and how to respond. Analysts say the episode could influence global energy markets and reshape diplomatic ties between Tehran and Washington.

As Iran's leaders deliberate next steps, the incident highlights rising stakes in nuclear geopolitics and the fine line between deterrence and escalation.
