UN Voices Concerns Over Israel-Iran Tensions: Insights from Xu Dezhi

New York โ€“ At a special session of the United Nations Security Council this week, delegates voiced alarm over rising tensions between Israel and Iran. According to CGTN's Xu Dezhi, the discussion centered on calls for immediate de-escalation and renewed diplomatic talks.

Over 75% of member states supported a resolution urging both sides to halt military activities along key fronts. Data from UN agencies shows that civilian areas in border regions have seen a 30% uptick in displacement since January, drawing urgent appeals for humanitarian corridors.

Humanitarian organizations highlighted the strain on medical facilities, noting that more than 150,000 people now lack access to basic health services. โ€œCaught in the crossfire, families face dire shortages of food, water and shelter,โ€ a UN relief official told the council.

Looking ahead, member states agreed to form a contact group led by neutral mediators aimed at facilitating dialogue and monitoring ceasefire commitments. Xu Dezhi reports that the initiative reflects a growing consensus: diplomacy, backed by robust data, remains the best path to stability in the region.
