At the opening of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation's foreign ministers' meeting in Istanbul, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan delivered a stark warning: Israel's recent strikes on Iran are dragging the region toward 'total disaster.'
Fidan stressed that the region faced an 'Israel problem,' citing a pattern of attacks not only in Iran but also in Palestine, Lebanon, Syria and Yemen. He declared that these illegal attacks must stop immediately and that Türkiye stands ready to shoulder its responsibilities.
He urged the international community to step in, restrain Israel and prevent further escalation that could spin into a broader conflict.
With dozens of foreign ministers from across the Islamic world listening, Fidan's call highlighted rising fears that continued clashes could fuel a humanitarian and economic ripple effect across borders.
As the OIC talks unfold, all eyes are on whether member states can unite behind a call for de-escalation or if deep divisions will challenge efforts to restore regional stability.
