Trump: Iran’s Role in Gaza Hostage Negotiations

U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that Iran is playing a behind-the-scenes role in ceasefire-for-hostages talks between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

"Gaza right now is in the midst of a massive negotiation between us and Hamas and Israel, and Iran actually is involved, and we'll see what's going to happen with Gaza. We want to get the hostages back," Trump told reporters during an event in the White House State Dining Room.

Ceasefire Proposal Details

The United States has outlined a 60-day ceasefire plan offering the release of 28 Israeli hostages—alive and dead—in the first week. In return, 1,236 Palestinian prisoners and the remains of 180 Palestinians would be freed. While Israel has agreed to the terms, Hamas has so far rejected the proposal.

Geopolitical Stakes

Trump did not elaborate on Iran’s specific role, and neither the White House nor Iran’s mission to the United Nations in New York provided further comment. The claim marks the latest twist in a multifaceted diplomatic effort, as Washington and Tehran are also separately negotiating over Iran’s nuclear program.

What’s Next?

The involvement of a key regional power could shift leverage in a conflict that has drawn global attention for its humanitarian impact. All eyes are now on whether these overlapping negotiations can break the deadlock and bring hostages home.
