At the third UN Ocean Conference in Nice, France, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng outlined China’s vision for a renewed UN-centered global order as the world marks 80 years of UN history.
“The more turbulent and complex the international situation becomes, the more countries must uphold the authority of the United Nations,” Han quoted President Xi Jinping, emphasizing the need for genuine multilateralism under the UN framework.
Han highlighted China’s long-standing support for the UN, noting that President Xi mandated his delegation’s presence at the conference to showcase China’s commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, especially on marine biodiversity and climate action.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres praised China as “a key pillar in upholding multilateralism and promoting global sustainable development.” He stressed that deeper cooperation is vital to safeguard peace, address climate challenges, and fully implement the 2030 Agenda.
On the sidelines, Han reiterated China’s appreciation for the UN’s unwavering adherence to the one-China principle and urged UN bodies to remain vigilant against attempts to distort UNGA Resolution 2758. Guterres affirmed that the UN will continue to observe this resolution.
For young professionals, entrepreneurs, and sustainability advocates, China’s renewed commitment to multilateral action signals new opportunities for cross-border partnerships in green tech, ocean conservation, and beyond.
