California Sues Feds Over National Guard Deployment, Citing Sovereignty Violation

California has taken the federal government to court, accusing President Trump’s administration of illegally deploying National Guard troops in Los Angeles and trampling on state sovereignty and federal law.

In a lawsuit filed Monday, state officials say the move oversteps constitutional boundaries. U.S. Northern Command has confirmed that about 700 U.S. Marines are already mobilized and stationed in LA. Governor Gavin Newsom warned that an additional 2,000 guard troops could arrive soon.

Tensions have been mounting since the National Guard was activated on June 7, a step Democrats dubbed an unnecessary provocation after protests erupted in response to immigration raids in Southern California.

As California and the White House lock horns, the case is shaping up as a landmark test of federal versus state power. Young voters, legal scholars, and activists worldwide are watching to see how this clash over sovereignty unfolds.
