Exit polls from three major terrestrial broadcasters placed Lee Jae-myung of the liberal Democratic Party in a strong lead in Tuesday's snap presidential election. Lee secured 51.7% of the projected vote, compared with 39.3% for Kim Moon-soo of the conservative People Power Party. Minor candidate Lee Jun-seok of the New Reform Party drew 7.7% support.
Separate projections by JTBC, Channel A and MBN echoed the joint survey, showing Lee leading by roughly 10 percentage points.
These exit polls set the stage for what could be a significant shift in South Korea's political landscape, pending the final vote count.
