Bridge Sabotage in Bryansk Sparks Train Derailment, 7 Dead

Early Sunday in Russia's Bryansk Region, an unexpected collapse of a road bridge span caused a passing freight train to derail, Russian authorities report.

Russian Railways said the collapse of a span structure, caused by illegal interference, led to the derailment of the locomotive and several cars.

At least seven people lost their lives in the accident, while 30 others were hospitalized. Two children are among those receiving care, with one in serious condition, according to Alexander Bogomaz, governor of the Bryansk Region.

Authorities in Bryansk have launched an investigation to identify the source of the interference and prevent similar tragedies in the future.

The incident highlights vulnerabilities in critical transport infrastructure and underscores the need for robust security measures across global rail networks.
