The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has defended its presidential election process, stating that the vote adhered fully to its Constitution and Statutes, and upheld the rights of its Member Associations.
Incumbent president Petra Sorling of Sweden secured a narrow victory at the Annual General Meeting in Doha, winning 104 votes to challenger Khalil Al-Mohannadi's 102. The two-vote margin sparked questions during the roll-call vote, leading organizers to temporarily suspend proceedings after disruptions by external participants.
In an official statement, the ITTF rejected claims of irregularities as unsubstantiated and announced it will launch an investigation to pinpoint responsibilities and strengthen safeguards against future disruptions.
By launching this review, the ITTF aims to reinforce trust in its governance and safeguard the integrity of future elections for its global membership.
