5.2-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Near Kyaukse, Myanmar

At 1554 GMT on Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey recorded a magnitude-5.2 earthquake about 21 kilometers south-southwest of Kyaukse in central Myanmar.

The quake struck at a relatively shallow depth of 10.0 kilometers, with its epicenter located at 21.43B0N latitude and 96.05B0E longitude. Shallow earthquakes often generate stronger surface shaking over a wider region.

While details on any damage or injuries are still emerging, the event underscores that Myanmar is positioned along active seismic zones. The USGS continues to monitor the area for aftershocks and will issue updates as more information becomes available.
