Swiss Radar Snags Speeding Duck Twice in 7 Years

In the town of Koniz, near Bern, Swiss traffic police made a quacky discovery. A standard speed radar image did not show a car – it revealed a mallard duck zipping through a 30km/h zone at 52km/h.

This was not a one-off. A near-identical duck was caught flying at the same speed, on the same date, seven years earlier. Locals joked about an avian repeat offender on the loose.

Authorities checked for pranks or fake photos but confirmed the system is sealed and audited annually by the Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS). The radar cannot be tampered with.

For wildlife fans, this report makes sense: mallard ducks can cruise at 48 to 65km/h in flight. Still, it is rare for nature to collide with high-tech traffic control.

Next time you hear a radar beep, glance skyward – you never know which feathered speedster might be passing by.
