In a bold move aimed at ending months of tension, Palestinian group Hamas says it is ready to release all remaining Israeli hostages in exchange for a full ceasefire in Gaza.
During the latest round of talks in Cairo this week, Israel offered a temporary 45-day ceasefire in return for the release of ten hostages. Hamas turned down the proposal, arguing that short-term deals only serve as cover for ongoing hostilities.
Hamas’s lead negotiator, Khalil Al Hayya, has vowed to reject any similar interim offers and instead called for a “comprehensive package of negotiations.”
Under the group’s framework, a lasting agreement would include:
- Immediate halt to fighting across Gaza
- Return of an agreed number of Palestinian prisoners held by Israel
- A reconstruction plan to rebuild Gaza’s infrastructure
The fresh proposal comes as ceasefire talks remain stalled, leaving thousands of civilians on both sides hoping for an end to the conflict. As negotiators prepare for another round of discussions, global attention is fixed on whether this bold offer can break the impasse and pave the way for peace.
