In a recent interview with International Affairs magazine, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov stated that Washington's approach to resolving the Ukraine crisis has not tackled the deeper, underlying issues of the conflict.
Ryabkov explained that the current U.S. framework is focused solely on establishing a ceasefire. He noted, "We have not heard any signal from (U.S. President Donald) Trump to Kyiv about ending the war," emphasizing that the efforts stop short of addressing long-standing concerns.
While Moscow takes these American proposals seriously, Ryabkov added that Russia has its own carefully considered priorities and strategies. This perspective underscores a fundamental disagreement over how to approach peace in the region.
Recent technical-level negotiations held in Riyadh between U.S., Ukrainian, and Russian delegations aimed to iron out the details of a potential ceasefire. However, intense fighting on the battlefields, deep-seated distrust, and conflicting demands have made reaching a comprehensive solution increasingly challenging.
The ongoing dialogue highlights the complexity of the crisis and leaves many questioning whether a framework focused only on a ceasefire can ever address the root causes fueling the conflict.
