Syria’s Interim Leadership Unveils New Transitional Government

Syria is embarking on a new political journey as its interim leadership unveils a transitional government from Damascus. In a dynamic announcement on Saturday, interim leader Ahmed al-Sharaa detailed major reshuffles aimed at laying the foundation for future stability.

The newly formed cabinet retains key figures from the interim administration. Asaad Hassan al-Shibani, formerly the interim chief of the foreign affairs authority, now serves as the foreign minister. Former intelligence chief Anas Khattab has been named interior minister, while Marhaf Abu Qusra, who led defense affairs during the interim phase, will take charge as defense minister.

In an effort to address both immediate challenges and long-term needs, the government has introduced structural reforms. A new ministry of emergency and disasters will tackle natural and humanitarian crises, and a dedicated ministry of youth and sports is set to drive initiatives for the nation’s younger generation.

This major political shift comes in the wake of the collapse of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government on December 8, 2024, following a 12-day offensive by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and allied militant groups. Under the leadership of HTS commander al-Sharaa, Syria now looks to carve out a new political framework in a turbulent era.

For global citizens, business enthusiasts, thought leaders, and travelers alike, this transitional government marks a bold step forward as Syria aims to reshape its future through strategic reforms and critical appointments.
