In a bid to foster stability amid a tumultuous global landscape and slow economic recovery, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called on China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea to enhance their cooperative efforts. Speaking after the 11th China-Japan-ROK Trilateral Foreign Ministers' Meeting, Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized that all three parties recognize the meaningful progress made so far in trilateral cooperation.
Wang Yi highlighted the need for continuous communication and the building of mutual trust, noting that these factors are essential for triggering fresh collaborative momentum and creating new highlights across six key areas identified during the previous summit. Among these, regional economic integration, free trade, the expansion of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership membership, and the stability of production and supply chains have been pinpointed as critical priorities.
Looking ahead, the top diplomats engaged in productive talks on arranging the 10th Trilateral Summit Meeting within the year. Their discussions aim to set a favorable stage that not only benefits economic priorities but also promotes technological innovation and sustainable growth. This includes plans to build an advanced hub for scientific and technological innovation in Asia, designed to spur the development of modern productivity forces.
Cultural exchange is also set to play a pivotal role. With the designation of 2025-2026 as the China-Japan-ROK Year of Cultural Exchange, the three sides are planning a series of initiatives intended to increase people-to-people interactions, targeting 40 million exchanges by 2030. Wang Yi noted that deepening social dialogue and cooperating on green, low-carbon development are integral to delivering tangible benefits to the residents of the three countries.
The commitment to multilateral cooperation, adherence to free trade principles, and the pursuit of a more open, inclusive, and balanced form of economic globalization underscores the collective determination of these nations to navigate the intricate challenges of a rapidly changing world.
