Maritime Routes Remain Tense Amid Houthi Coastal Control

In a series of candid remarks in Aden, Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad Al-Alimi warned that the security of maritime routes in the region will remain at risk as long as Houthi forces maintain control over Yemen's vital coastal areas.

During his meeting with French Ambassador to Yemen Catherine Corm-Kammoun, Al-Alimi highlighted that recent Houthi attacks on international shipping lanes have significantly raised concerns over regional stability and global trade. He called for punitive measures against the Houthi militias, emphasizing that supporting the internationally recognized Yemeni government in restoring state institutions is key to countering terrorism.

Currently, the Houthis command major northern regions, including Sanaa and the strategic Red Sea port of Hodeidah, while the internationally recognized government holds sway over the southern and eastern areas, with Aden serving as the temporary capital.

The security of these maritime routes is crucial not only for safeguarding international trade, but also for maintaining a stable environment for business innovation, travel, and cultural exchange. As debates continue globally, decision-makers are pressed to act decisively to restore comprehensive state authority and ensure smoother, safer maritime passage.
