In a significant diplomatic shift on Monday, Russia announced the expulsion of two British diplomats, accusing them of providing false information and engaging in intelligence and disruptive activities.
The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that a representative from the British embassy was summoned to notify them of the decision.
Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) claimed that their counterintelligence operations uncovered the unreported presence of UK intelligence agents operating under the guise of embassy officials in Moscow.
The diplomats identified for expulsion are Second Secretary Alkesh Odedra and Michael Skinner, the spouse of the embassy's First Secretary of the political department.
The Russian Foreign Ministry, in coordination with other relevant agencies, has stripped Odedra and Skinner of their accreditation, requiring them to leave Russia within two weeks.
