For thousands of years, Indigenous societies have lived in the Amazon rainforest, their stories concealed beneath its vast expanse. But only recently has the magnitude of their legacy begun to surface.
Using Lidar – light detection and ranging, a remote sensing technology – scientists are uncovering remarkable evidence that these ancient civilizations not only thrived but also developed sustainable ways to shape and manage the forest in ways that are benefiting mankind today.
