U.S. VA Plans Massive Cut: 80,000 Jobs to Streamline Operations

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is planning to reduce its workforce by over 80,000 employees, as revealed in an internal memo cited by U.S. media outlets.

Christopher Syrek, the VA's chief of staff, sent the memo to senior officials on Tuesday, outlining the goal to return the agency to its 2019 staffing levels of just under 400,000 employees. This reduction would bring the total workforce down by approximately 82,000 staff members.

These significant cuts aim to streamline operations and improve efficiency within the department. The decision comes as the VA seeks to adapt to changing demands and ensure sustainable management of resources.
