UAE Rejects Trump’s Plan to Displace Palestinians, Advocates Two-State Solution

The United Arab Emirates has firmly rejected U.S. President Donald Trump's proposal to displace Palestinians from Gaza, emphasizing the need for a peaceful two-state solution.

During a meeting in Abu Dhabi, UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan conveyed to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio that any reconstruction of Gaza must be tied to a comprehensive and lasting peace based on the two-state solution to the Israel-Palestinian conflict.

This stance comes in response to Trump's suggestion of a U.S. takeover of Gaza and the resettlement of its 2.3 million Palestinian inhabitants to Jordan and Egypt. The proposal has faced widespread opposition from Arab countries and Western allies alike.

The UAE's position is particularly significant as it is one of the four Arab nations that normalized ties with Israel during the Trump administration. Additionally, the UAE has been instrumental in financing reconstruction efforts following previous conflicts in the region.

Arab diplomacy is now focused on developing an alternative to Trump's plan, aiming to restore Gaza, which has been devastated by a 15-month military campaign against Hamas, leaving most residents homeless. Leaders from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the UAE, and Qatar are set to discuss Trump's proposal in Riyadh before presenting an alternative at the Arab League summit in Cairo in March.
