Sudanese Army Gains Ground in Strategic Push Against RSF

Sudan's military has intensified its offensive against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), capturing key territories in a campaign that could reshape the year-long conflict. The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) announced Monday it secured full control of Kafouri, the RSF's last stronghold in Bahri city, just north of Khartoum, following 'intense operations' to dismantle militia positions.

Strategic Victory in Bahri City

Kafouri's fall marks a turning point—the area had been a launchpad for RSF artillery strikes on neighboring Omdurman. SAF Special Forces from Al-Markhiat Military Base systematically cleared the district, cutting off the militia's access to critical urban centers.

Al-Rahad: A Key Transport Hub

In central Sudan, SAF troops reclaimed Al-Rahad after days of fighting, securing a vital railway junction linking western Sudan to eastern and central regions. The city lies 30km west of North Kordofan's capital, El Obeid, and its capture follows January's recapture of Um Ruwaba. Analysts note the RSF's retreat from Gezira and Sinnar states signals weakening territorial control.

The conflict, which erupted in April 2023, has claimed over 29,680 lives according to international observers. Recent SAF gains—including the Khartoum Oil Refinery—suggest shifting momentum, though humanitarian organizations warn of escalating displacement risks amid renewed clashes.
