In a unified stance, multiple Middle Eastern countries have voiced strong opposition to U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal to take control of the Gaza Strip and relocate its residents.
Trump unveiled his plan during a joint press conference at the White House with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, suggesting that the United States would oversee the redevelopment of Gaza following the relocation of its Palestinian inhabitants. However, this proposal has been met with widespread condemnation from Arab and Muslim nations.
The Palestinian presidency issued a statement reiterating that Palestine's land, history, and holy sites are not for sale. Nabil Abu Rudeineh, the spokesman for the Palestinian presidency, emphasized, \"The Palestinian people, who have made immense sacrifices in defense of their national rights, will not relinquish even an inch of their land, including the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and East Jerusalem.\" He further asserted that any solutions must adhere to international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.
Egypt has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborate with international partners to facilitate the early recovery, rubble removal, and reconstruction of Gaza within a specified timeframe. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry clarified that Palestinians would remain in Gaza, rejecting any plans to displace them.
Algeria strongly condemned the proposal, warning that it is part of a broader scheme to undermine the Palestinian national cause. The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that lasting peace in the Middle East is intrinsically linked to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on a two-state solution.
Similarly, the Libyan Foreign Ministry rejected attempts to displace Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank. The ministry highlighted the Palestinians' right to establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital and condemned any actions aimed at forcibly removing Palestinians or altering the demographic composition of the occupied territories.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also rejected the proposal during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Ankara. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan echoed this sentiment, declaring the plan unacceptable and counterproductive to regional peace.
At a recent meeting with Palestinian leaders, Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit reiterated the rejection of the U.S. proposal and called for accelerated reconstruction efforts in Gaza to prevent any displacement of its residents.
The collective response from these nations underscores a steadfast commitment to Palestinian rights and the pursuit of a peaceful, two-state solution in the region.
