The International Criminal Court (ICC) has strongly condemned an executive order signed by U.S. President Donald Trump, which imposes sanctions on its staff. In a unified response, the ICC affirmed its commitment to providing justice to millions worldwide and called on its members to stand together.

President Trump authorized economic and travel sanctions targeting individuals involved in ICC investigations of U.S. citizens or allies, including those from Israel. This move mirrors similar actions taken during his first term.

Amid widespread criticism of the sanctions, European Union leader Ursula von der Leyen warned that these measures could endanger the search for justice in Ukraine. She emphasized the importance of maintaining robust international justice systems.

What does Trump's executive order mean?

The executive order, published on the White House website on February 6, alleges that the ICC has \"abused its power\" by issuing \"unwarranted arrest warrants\" for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

The order highlights that neither the U.S. nor Israel is a member of the ICC or a signatory to the Rome Statute. \"Neither country has ever recognized the ICC's jurisdiction, and both are thriving democracies with militaries that strictly adhere to the laws of war,\" Trump stated.
