US White House Offers Incentives for Federal Employees to Resign

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday a new initiative offering incentives for nearly all civilian federal workers to resign. Dubbed the \"deferred resignation program,\" this plan allows federal employees to remain on the payroll through September 30 without the requirement to work.

According to an email sent to federal employees and obtained by Reuters, the program includes federal buyouts typically capped at $25,000. Employees have until February 6 to decide whether to participate in the program.

The email further stated that the administration aims to create a \"more streamlined and flexible workforce.\" While certain sectors like the military and specific agencies are expected to increase their staff, the majority of federal agencies are projected to undergo downsizing through restructurings and layoffs.

The White House has not provided additional comments on the initiative.

American Federation of Government Employees President Everett Kelley criticized the proposal, stating, \"This should not be viewed as voluntary. Between the flurry of anti-worker executive orders and policies, it is clear that the Trump administration's goal is to turn the federal government into a toxic environment where workers cannot stay even if they want to.\"
