The ruling parties of the Chinese mainland and Japan's Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito Party have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close dialogue and communication, regardless of the challenges facing China-Japan relations.
This agreement was reached during the ninth meeting of the China-Japan ruling parties exchange mechanism held in Beijing. Representatives acknowledged the significant role the exchange mechanism has played since its inception in 2006 in guiding the development of bilateral relations.
Both parties welcomed the resumption of inter-party talks after a hiatus of six years and three months, emphasizing the importance of these discussions in upholding international order based on international law amidst global upheavals.
In candid discussions, the ruling parties focused on their mission and responsibilities, highlighting the need to enhance mutual trust, expand cultural exchanges, and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation. They committed to adhering to the principles established in the four China-Japan political documents and following the direction of their leaders.
The parties pledged joint efforts to comprehensively advance strategic and mutually beneficial relations, aiming to build a constructive and stable relationship suited to the demands of the new era. They agreed to strengthen dialogue, enhance mutual understanding and trust, and foster exchanges between seasoned and young politicians, thereby laying a solid political foundation for improving and developing bilateral relations.
The discussions also covered critical issues such as the discharge of nuclear-contaminated water from Japan's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station into the ocean and the import of Japanese seafood products. Both sides agreed to promote the implementation of the consensus reached by their governments, accelerate communication and consultation, and address each other's concerns appropriately.
Looking ahead, the ruling parties confirmed their commitment to promoting practical cooperation through continued exchanges and agreed in principle to hold the 10th meeting under the exchange mechanism in Japan this autumn.
