Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to announce his resignation this week amidst increasing dissatisfaction within his Liberal Party, as reported by The Globe and Mail on Sunday.
According to three anonymous sources, Trudeau's resignation could be declared as early as Monday, just before the national Liberal Party caucus scheduled for Wednesday.
While it's uncertain whether Trudeau will serve in an interim role during the party's search for new leadership, the move comes as Trudeau trails his main competitor, Conservative Pierre Poilievre, by 20 points in recent public opinion polls.
Trudeau first took office in 2015 and successfully led the Liberals to victories in 2019 and 2021. However, mounting challenges within his party have led to speculation about his political future.
