South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol is taking legal action in response to recent charges by the joint investigation unit. According to reports from Yonhap News Agency, Yoon will submit a written opinion and appoint a defense counsel to the Seoul Western District Court.
Lawyer and former prosecutor Yoon Kab-keun stated that Yoon's written opinion would be filed later today, addressing the arrest warrant sought by the investigation unit. The warrant pertains to Yoon's brief imposition of martial law earlier this month, a decision Yoon defends as an \\"act of governance\\" intended to caution the opposition against what he describes as legislative overreach.
In addition to his written response, Yoon is arranging legal representation by delivering an appointment letter for his defense counsel to the court. This move comes after the joint investigation unit requested an arrest warrant based on charges of insurrection and abuse of power, following Yoon's failure to appear for questioning after three summonses.
The case now awaits a decision from a Seoul court on whether to issue the arrest warrant. President Yoon has firmly denied any wrongdoing, maintaining that his actions were within his authority to ensure governmental stability.
