DPRK Appoints Pak Thae Song as New Premier Amid Leadership Shakeup

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) has appointed Pak Thae Song as the country’s new premier, according to an official report by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Sunday.

Pak's appointment comes during a significant meeting of the ruling party, the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), specifically the Enlarged Meeting of the Eleventh Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee, held in Pyongyang from December 23 to 27.

In addition to his new role as premier, Pak was also elected as a presidium member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the WPK.

Furthermore, Choe Son Hui, the DPRK's foreign minister, was elected as a member of the Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee, signaling a reshuffle in the country’s political landscape.
