South Korean President Yoon to Speak in Upcoming Impeachment Hearings

South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol is preparing to address the Constitutional Court regarding his impeachment, as public hearings are set to begin on December 27. According to Yonhap news agency, Yoon's defense counsel has stated that the president will confidently present his case in court.

The impeachment process, initiated by the National Assembly, has led to Yoon's presidential powers being suspended pending the court's decision, which may take up to 180 days. Yoon faces charges related to his decision to impose martial law on December 3, an action he described as an \\"act of governance\\" aimed at protecting against what he termed a \\"legislative dictatorship\\".

In his defense, Yoon has expressed no concern over the insurrection charges, emphasizing his focus on responding to ongoing criminal investigations. The president's defense team will handle the impeachment trial separately from any criminal proceedings.

The Constitutional Court is expected to hold its first preliminary hearing on Tuesday, marking the beginning of a significant period in South Korea's political landscape. As the world watches, Yoon's ability to defend his decisions and maintain his political standing remains a focal point for both domestic and international observers.
