Syria’s Schools Reopen Amid Post-Assad Transition

In a significant step towards normalcy, schools across Syria have reopened on Sunday, a week after the departure of Bashar al-Assad's government and the takeover by rebel forces in the capital. This move highlights the beginning of a new chapter for the war-torn nation.

Ahmad al-Sharaa, Syria's new de facto leader, now faces the daunting task of rebuilding the country after 13 years of devastating civil war. The conflict has resulted in the loss of hundreds of thousands of lives, the destruction of cities through relentless bombing, an economy crippled by international sanctions, and a massive displacement crisis with millions of refugees seeking safety in camps outside Syria.

Officials announced that most schools across the country commenced operations on Sunday, aligning with the start of the working week in many Arab nations. However, uncertainty still looms, leading some parents to hesitate in sending their children back to classrooms.

\"The school has asked us to send middle and upper pupils back to class,\" said Raghida Ghosn, a 56-year-old mother of three, according to AFP. She added, \"the younger ones will go back in two days.\"
