Syria Enters Transitional Phase as Parliament Suspended

In a significant move, Syria has suspended its constitution and parliament for three months following the ouster of President Bashar al-Assad. Reports from AFP and Sawt al-Asima, a news outlet supportive of the militant groups that overthrew Assad's government, highlight this major shift in the country's political landscape.

While Sawt al-Asima did not provide specific details on the suspension's implementation, AFP reported that a judicial and human rights committee will be established to examine the constitution and introduce necessary amendments. This information was cited from Obaida Arnaout, a spokesperson for the interim government.

The overthrow of Assad last weekend has paved the way for a new transitional government, led by Mohammed al-Bashir. Al-Bashir, who previously governed a small region in northwestern Syria, is expected to oversee the nation's governance until March 2025, guiding Syria through this critical period of transformation.

Meanwhile, Assad and his family have relocated to Moscow, where they have been granted asylum "out of humanitarian considerations." The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed earlier this week that Assad has left Syria, resigned from his position as president, and emphasized the importance of a peaceful transfer of power.

Syria's transition marks a pivotal moment in the country's history, as it navigates the complexities of establishing a new political order and moving towards stability.
