Brazilian President Lula’s Second Brain Surgery a Success, Says Doctor

In a positive turn of events, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has successfully undergone a second brain surgery this week, according to his medical team.

Earlier in the week, President Lula required emergency brain surgery after suffering a fall in the bathroom at his presidential residence in late October, which led to bleeding between his brain and the meningeal membrane. The initial procedure, performed on Tuesday at Sao Paulo's Sirio-Libanes Hospital, lasted about two hours and was aimed at draining the accumulated blood.

Following the initial surgery, doctors decided to perform a middle meningeal artery embolization on Thursday morning to minimize the risk of future bleeding. \"The procedure was successful. We managed to embolize that artery,\" said Roberto Kalil Filho, Lula's doctor. He also noted, \"The president is awake and speaking\" after the approximately hour-long operation.

President Lula's medical team held a news conference on Tuesday, assuring the public that he had suffered no brain damage and indicating that he is expected to be released from the hospital next week. Further details are anticipated in a press conference scheduled for 10 a.m. (1300 GMT).
