South Korea’s Parliament Approves Bill to Investigate President Yoon’s Treason Charges

In a significant political move, South Korea's parliament passed a bill on Tuesday to appoint a standing special prosecutor tasked with investigating President Yoon Suk-yeol's alleged treason charges. The decision was confirmed through live TV footage of the plenary session.

Out of 287 lawmakers present, a majority of 210 voted in favor of the bill, while 63 opposed it, and 14 abstained. This strong support underscores the parliament's commitment to addressing the serious accusations against the president.

The bill, initially submitted last week to the 300-member unicameral National Assembly, aims to thoroughly investigate the charges stemming from Yoon's declaration of martial law, which many critics have labeled as \"unconstitutional.\" This development marks a pivotal moment in South Korea's political landscape, highlighting the ongoing debates over executive power and constitutional governance.
