South Korean Police Summon Cabinet Members and Spy Chief Over Martial Law Declaration

South Korean authorities are intensifying their investigation into the recent martial law declaration by President Yoon Suk-yeol. On Tuesday, the police announced that they have requested the presence of 11 high-ranking officials, including cabinet members and the head of the National Intelligence Service, for questioning.

The officials on the list include Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun, former Interior Minister Lee Sang-min, Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul, and National Intelligence Service Director Cho Tae-yong, among others. These individuals are believed to have attended crucial cabinet meetings both before and after the martial law was declared on December 3.

The National Office of Investigation, which is handling the case, has stated that it may take legal action to compel the officials to appear if they do not cooperate voluntarily. This move underscores the seriousness with which the authorities are approaching the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the martial law declaration.
