In a swift international response, investigators from Germany and Spain are teaming up with Lithuanian authorities to determine the cause of a recent DHL plane crash in Vilnius.
Laurynas Naujokaitis, director of the Lithuanian Justice Ministry's Transport Accident and Incident Investigation Division, announced on Monday that German safety authorities have dispatched four investigators currently en route to Lithuania.
Spain is also contributing to the probe by sending two experts to assist in the investigation, Naujokaitis confirmed. \"We are committed to uncovering the factors that led to this tragic incident, focusing solely on aviation safety,\" he said.
The investigation is expected to be thorough and could take up to a year to conclude, ensuring that all aspects of aviation safety are meticulously examined.
The crash involved a Boeing 737-476 (SF) owned by Spanish airline Swift Air and operated on behalf of German shipping giant DHL. While en route from Leipzig, Germany, the aircraft tragically collided with a residential building near Vilnius airport, resulting in the loss of one pilot and injuring three others.
Additionally, the U.S. aviation administration has been notified, as the aircraft was manufactured in the United States, highlighting the global dimensions of this investigation.
