US Blocks UN Ceasefire Resolution for Gaza with Veto

In a significant move on Wednesday, the United States exercised its veto power to block a United Nations Security Council resolution aimed at establishing an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

The 15-member council convened to discuss a resolution proposed by its 10 non-permanent members, which called for an \"immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire\" in the region. Additionally, the resolution sought the release of hostages held in Gaza.

Despite broad support from other council members, the U.S. stood alone in opposing the resolution, using its permanent seat to prevent its adoption. This veto underscores the ongoing complexities and geopolitical tensions surrounding the Gaza conflict.

The rejection of the ceasefire resolution raises concerns among international communities and humanitarian organizations, who continue to advocate for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
