Environmental Justice: Brazilian Expert Reveals Poorest Bear Climate Change’s Burden

Climate change isn't just an environmental issue—it's a matter of social justice. During a recent interview with CGTN Reporter Li Jingjing, Kayo Moura, the research coordinator at Decodifica Institute, shed light on the stark inequalities exacerbated by climate crises.

\"The poorest and marginalized communities are the ones who suffer the most from climate-related disasters like floods and landslides,\" Moura emphasized. These vulnerable populations often lack the resources to recover from such events, trapping them in a cycle of poverty and environmental degradation.

Adding to the injustice, Moura highlighted a startling statistic: the richest one percent of the world's population generates the same amount of carbon emissions as the poorest sixty-six percent. This disparity underscores the urgent need for global action that addresses both environmental sustainability and economic inequality.

\"As we strive for a greener future, it's imperative that we also fight for environmental justice, ensuring that the burdens of climate change are not disproportionately placed on those who can least afford it,\" Moura concluded.
