Zelenskyy Seeks Diplomatic Resolution to Ukraine-Russia War in 2024

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his desire to end the ongoing conflict with Russia through diplomatic means in an interview aired on Saturday. He emphasized the importance of doing everything necessary to achieve peace by next year.

Zelenskyy acknowledged the tough situation on the battlefield, noting Russia's advances in eastern Ukraine, including the recent capture of two villages in Donetsk by Russian forces. Despite the challenges, he remains committed to finding a peaceful solution.

While Zelenskyy remarked that Russian President Vladimir Putin is not interested in a formal peace deal, he indicated that Putin might still be open to dialogue to alleviate political isolation. In a recent call with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Putin stated that Russia is open to resuming talks, provided that any agreement addresses Russian security interests, reflects new territorial realities, and eliminates the original causes of the conflict.

As the war continues more than two years since its onset in February 2022, Zelenskyy's call for diplomacy underscores Ukraine's hope for a peaceful future amidst ongoing hostilities.
