Peru’s Chancay Port is on the brink of becoming the region’s new trade hub, poised to revolutionize connections between South America and Asia. Set to significantly reduce transit times and costs, this mega port is a game-changer for international trade.
With a deepwater capability of 17.8 meters, Chancay Port can accommodate ultra-large container vessels, enhancing its role as a key player in global commerce. The Chancay Terminal project encompasses a multi-purpose terminal, a container terminal, and essential infrastructure. In its first phase, the port will feature four berths—two multi-purpose and two container berths—designed to handle an impressive annual throughput of one million TEUs, six million tonnes of general cargo, and 160,000 vehicles, according to the Belt and Road Portal website.
Peru’s President Dina Boluarte highlighted in July that the Chancay megaport, located in a small town just north of Lima, will serve as a \"nerve center\" for facilitating efficient and robust connections between South America and Asia.
