Israeli Airstrikes Kill Dozens in Gaza and Lebanon Amid Counterterrorism Efforts

In a tragic escalation of violence, Israeli airstrikes targeted areas in Gaza and Lebanon on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of dozens, including children. According to Gaza's civil defense agency, 30 people lost their lives in northern Gaza, with 13 of them being minors. The initial strike hit a residential building in Jabalia, claiming at least 25 lives and injuring over 30 others.

The Israeli military stated that the attacks were aimed at sites where \"terrorists were operating.\" In a statement, the military emphasized that these individuals posed a threat to Israeli Defense Forces operating in the area, though details remain under review.

Another devastating strike occurred in the Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City, killing five more residents. Additionally, Israeli security forces announced the elimination of Muhammad Abu Sakhil, a key operations leader for the Islamic Jihad militant group, in a targeted airstrike. Abu Sakhil was identified as a significant figure responsible for planning and coordinating attacks, including joint operations with Hamas against Israeli civilians and troops.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas fiercely condemned the military actions, describing them as historically unprecedented and accusing Israel of making Gaza uninhabitable. Speaking during a televised address commemorating the 20th anniversary of former leader Yasser Arafat's death, Abbas declared, \"Our people cannot be erased,\" underscoring the resilience of the Palestinian population amidst ongoing violence and displacement.

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry further criticized Israel for constructing military corridors within Gaza, arguing that these actions divide the territory and worsen the plight of its residents. Israeli media reports indicate that the Israeli army is reorganizing Gaza by establishing three military corridors, including the Netzarim Corridor, which has become a significant military base with detention centers and command posts.

As tensions remain high, the international community watches closely, hoping for a path towards peace and the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
