The foreign ministers of Russia and the Democratic Peopleโs Republic of Korea (DPRK) held strategic consultations in Moscow on Friday, reaffirming their commitment to fully implementing the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This treaty has elevated their traditionally friendly relations to a new level, according to a statement issued by Russia's Foreign Ministry on Saturday.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his DPRK counterpart Choe Son Hui exchanged opinions on key international problems. Both parties agreed to continue the strategic consultations between the foreign ministers and to foster dialogue and exchanges between the foreign ministries at different levels.
During the strategic dialogue, the two sides shared in-depth views on practical issues for developing bilateral ties, as reported by the official Korean Central News Agency.
The two parties expressed a common understanding that \"the root cause of ever-escalating tensions in the Korean Peninsula, Northeast Asia and other parts of the world lies in the provocations of the United States and its vassal countries,\" according to the statement.
The Russian side expressed \"full support\" for the measures taken by the DPRK leadership to \"deter the aggressive policy of the United States and its allies and ensure regional peace and stability,\" the statement added.
