ICC Prosecutor Calls for Immediate Probe into Misconduct Allegations

The International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor, Karim Khan, has officially requested an immediate investigation into allegations of misconduct made against him. This move comes as Khan seeks to address both the claims and the surrounding disinformation.

In a statement posted on social media site X, Khan affirmed, \"I shall cooperate fully with that inquiry,\" underscoring his commitment to transparency and accountability.

Last week, Khan publicly denied the accusations of unspecified misconduct following the ICC's governing body's notification of the allegations. However, responses from the Independent Oversight Mechanism (IOM) and the court's governing organ have been sparse, with Reuters receiving no immediate updates on the potential formal investigation.

According to the IOM's annual report for 2024, the alleged victim involved in Khan's case did not explicitly confirm the allegations during talks with the oversight body earlier this year, resulting in no formal inquiry being launched at this time.

The ICC, a permanent court established to prosecute individuals for war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, and the crime of aggression, is currently reviewing Khan's recent request from May. This request pertains to the issuance of arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his defense chief, and leaders of Hamas.

The outcome of this internal investigation could have significant implications for Khan's role within the ICC and the court's ongoing judicial processes.
