Early exit polls from Uruguay's presidential election indicate that center-left opposition candidate Yamandu Orsi is leading over his conservative rival, Alvaro Delgado. The results suggest that a runoff will likely be necessary to determine the next president.
According to a Cifra exit poll, Orsi has secured 44 percent of the vote, with Delgado trailing at 27 percent. Emerging as a significant contender is the young, social media-savvy conservative Andres Ojeda, who has garnered 16 percent of the vote.
Ojeda has previously pledged to support Delgado, aiming to prevent the center-left from returning to power if he is not in the final round.
Prior to the election, pollsters predicted that no candidate would achieve more than 50 percent of the vote, indicating the need for a second round scheduled for November 24 between the top two finishers.
