Shinjiro Koizumi, Japan's Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) election chief, has submitted his resignation following the party's worst performance since 2009.
Koizumi tendered his resignation to Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, stating his intention to \"take responsibility\" for the disappointing results in the general election.
In the recent election, the LDP and its partner Komeito secured a combined 215 out of 465 seats in the lower chamber of parliament, falling short of the 233 seats required for a majority. The LDP alone won 191 seats, a significant decrease from the 247 seats they held before the election.
Furthermore, Komeito leader Keiichi Ishii hinted at his own resignation following the party's substantial losses.
