China Condemns U.S. $1.988B Arms Sale to Taiwan Region

The U.S. State Department recently approved a $1.988 billion arms sale to the Taiwan region, including advanced surface-to-air missile systems and radar technologies. In response, a spokesperson for China's Foreign Ministry expressed strong disapproval.

\"The US arms sales to China's Taiwan region seriously violate the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiqués, especially the August 17 Communiqué of 1982,\" the spokesperson stated. \"These sales undermine China’s sovereignty and security interests, harm China-US relations, and destabilize peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. They also send a gravely wrong message to separatist forces advocating for Taiwan independence.\"

China's Foreign Ministry further emphasized that the U.S. decision to arm Taiwan contradicts American leaders' commitments to not support Taiwan independence and disrupts ongoing efforts to stabilize China-U.S. relations. \"China urges the U.S. to immediately stop arming Taiwan and halt actions that jeopardize peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait,\" the spokesperson added. \"We will take resolute countermeasures to firmly defend our national sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.\"
