At the 16th BRICS Summit, Chinese premier Xi Jinping met with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, marking a significant moment as Egypt joins the group as a full member.
Xi emphasized China’s commitment to being a sincere friend and a close partner for joint development with Egypt. He highlighted this year as the China-Egypt year of partnership and celebrated the 10th anniversary of their comprehensive strategic partnership.
The two leaders discussed enhancing political mutual trust, deepening practical cooperation, and jointly advancing the Belt and Road Initiative with high quality. Xi also expressed China’s support for Egypt’s national sovereignty, security, and development interests.
President Sisi congratulated China on the 75th anniversary of the People's Republic of China and acknowledged China’s role as a key friend to Egypt and African nations. He reaffirmed Egypt’s adherence to the one-China principle and its willingness to integrate its development strategies with the Belt and Road Initiative.
Both leaders addressed the current situation in the Middle East, with Xi expressing deep concern over ongoing conflicts and emphasizing the importance of implementing UN Security Council resolutions to achieve a two-state solution for the Palestinian issue.
The meeting underscored the growing cooperation between China and Egypt within the BRICS framework, aiming to enhance the influence of the Global South and promote a more just and equitable global governance system.
